Market Introduction
The vehicle was launched in the Indian market on October 4, 2010 to fill the void left by its predecessor, the Mahindra MM540. The Thar has been voted one of the top-10 SUVs available in the Indian market.
Technical Specifications
This all-new Thar is equipped with a fresh 1,997cc turbocharged petrol engine mated to either a six-speed manual or six-speed torque converter automatic. It develops 150bhp at 5,000rpm and 300Nm of torque from 1,250 to 3,000rpm while the automatic powertrain makes 320Nm of torque between 1,500 and 3,000rpm.
There is the lastest generation of tried and trusted mHawk – a 2,184cc diesel engine available with either a six-speed manual gearbox or six-speed automatic. It makes 130bhp at 3,750rpm and 300Nm of torque between 1,600 and 2,800rpm.

Mahindra Thar is a 3 door car which has front Disc brakes, Independent Double Wishbone Front Suspension With Coil Over Damper And Stabiliser Bar suspensions and rear 282mm drum brakes, Multi-link solid rear axle with coil over damper and stabiliser bar suspensions with 16 Inch Wheels.
